Grover's Corner, Illinois

Ingemar Olsson

If life were lived in one dimension
For man and woman, girl and boy
You would never need to raise a question
In Grover’s Corner, Illinois

But life has more than one direction
And we question everywhere we go
So it seems we need a new perception
Of what we really need to know

Life is but a gift
That is placed within our hand
What more do we need
To understand

I wish that I could go to Egypt
To Rio and to Singapore
But I guess I’ll have to be content with
A visit to the house next door

I dream about the world around me
And places that I could enjoy
Then I pinch my arm and it astounds me
That I’m back again in Illinois

Life is but a gift......

The start was very plain and simple
- A carpenter from Galilee
Divinity was in his essence
His greatness was simplicity

In places that are most neglected
There’s a spirit that you can’t destroy
It can happen where you least expect it
Like in Grover’s Corner, Illinois

Life is but a gift.............
